Suites & Legends
The Hôtel Barrière Le Majestic Cannes’ “Prestige” accommodation now includes two new top-quality suites, which both share the same hallmarks of elegance, comfort, originality and passion.
Download the PDFTop-class suites are to luxury hotels what Haute Couture dresses are to fashion – rare items which, although only enjoyed by a few privileged individuals, demonstrate the savoir-faire and creativity of an entire brand. The suites at the Majestic are no exception, offering a faithful representation of the Barrière hotel’s DNA. The “yachting” ambience of the Majestic Penthouse, the ultimate elegance of the Christian Dior Suite, and the artistic inspiration behind the Mélodie Suite are all typical of the Mediterranean, offering unbridled luxury and a union of art and French art de vivre. This profession of faith has just been realised in the best way possible, with the opening of two new sublime suites at this 5-star hotel on the Croisette.
A unique look
The first of these two suites bears witness to the strong link between the Majestic and the world of cinema. This connection is already apparent in the hundreds of portraits of actors and actresses which adorn the walls of the lobby and the Fouquet’s Cannes restaurant. Now it can also be seen on the hotel’s sixth floor in Suite 636, an attractive arrangement of two bedrooms and a lounge which has been christened the “Michèle Morgan Suite”. “With its luminous and timeless elegance, this suite pays tribute to the superb artist to whom it is dedicated”, explains Chantal Peyrat, the suite’s designer.
Measuring 100m2, the Michèle Morgan Suite boasts all the comfortable amenities which have made this hotel such a success since the Roaring Twenties – the beautiful sea views, the use of elegant colours and materials, and painstaking attention to detail (king-size bed, memory foam mattress, pillow menu etc). At the same time, it offers its guests a little “extra” not found in any other of the hotel’s rooms – the ever-present memory of its muse. It is this striking memory of an actress who, with more than 70 movies to her name, will always be remembered as one of the queens of French cinema, which makes a real difference to the suite, adding more than a touch of glamour to the elegant decor.
How is this achieved? Quite simply by adding items and photos relating to the actress to the decor. These include Palme d’Or awards decorating the walls and some of the household linen, which remind us that Michèle Morgan has been part of the history of Cannes and its famous Film Festival ever since she was awarded the Best Actress prize at the first festival in 1946. And of course, by her famous eyes! Chantal Peyrat has not ignored the fact that this actress was renowned across the globe for having the most beautiful eyes in cinema, immortalised in the film Quai des Brumes (Port of Shadows), produced by Marcel Carné and with a screenplay by Jacques Prévert, in which Jean Gabin has the famous line “T'as d'beaux yeux, tu sais” (“You’ve got beautiful eyes, you know”). These beautiful eyes have been cleverly used by the designer to personalise some of the cushions in the lounge and master bedroom. And who hasn’t dreamt of gazing into Michèle Morgan’s beautiful eyes?
Setting sail
The second of the Majestic’s new suites also tells the tale of a love story – but this time not of the world of cinema and movies but of the sounds of the waves and the blue sea extending to the horizon. With its panoramic views of the sea and its nautical theme, the Riviera Suite is a real ode to the Mediterranean. And this is the Mediterranean as we know it and love it here at the Hôtel Majestic – a tranquil sanctuary designed for restorative breaks and an invitation to indulge in refined pleasures.
As a result, the Riviera Suite transforms a simple stay into a luxury cruise. This was the intention behind the decor, which is once again the work of Chantal Peyrat. “Here,” she tells us, “all the stylish features of luxury cruising have been reinterpreted, such as the use of mahogany, cream-coloured leather, subtle lighting, and the suggestion of sails and sounds of the sea”. The maritime-inspired decor which she has created is the result of a successful blend of navy blue, white, beige and brass, of the pictures and paintings chosen to adorn the walls with their idealised images of the sea in all its glory, and of the combination of wood and metal which evokes the interior of a yacht.
To this ambience which is as tranquil as it is elegant, the Riviera Suite adds an additional touch of comfort. The suite is striking for its size – a 200m2 space which comprises a lounge preceded by an entrance hall and two bedrooms. Each bedroom has its own dressing room and marble bathroom with a bath, floor-level shower, two basins and other luxurious fittings. The suite opens out from the lounge on to a large terrace and each bedroom has its own balcony. This cosy haven also boasts numerous top-quality amenities, such as king-size beds with memory-foam mattresses, hypoallergenic duvets and pillows, electronic safe, iron and ironing board, automatic minibar, courtesy tray with tea and coffee, Nespresso coffee machine, flatscreen TV with films payable by card, and WiFi Internet access. In other words, all that you could possibly need for a truly relaxing voyage !
